Michael Tanenhaus at Mavenspire has put together a nice little chart on his company blog site which compares some of the major server virtualization solutions and their key specs side-by-side. I think it’s handy, and certainly worth a look.
A couple of updates on the Novell SLES 10 Xen features supported as of SP2… (might be corrected by the time you visit)
- SMP Support — up to 32
- vNICs per Guest — 8
- It’s also worth reminding folks that when it comes to “Price model”, Novell only requires one support subscription per physical server (links here or here). So you can have a SLES 10 server with Xen as the virtualization host server and have 20 SLES virtual machines on that server for no additional cost. The same is true if you decided to run VMware as your hypervisor – only one subscription is required per physical VMware server.
So, make the most of your IT budget and use SUSE Linux Enterprise Server
(sorry, couldn’t help myself…)
Another great document to check out:
- For the technical details on what Xen in SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP2 supports, from tech specs to supported guest operating systems, check out this PDF document…
